Douglas Wilmer might have been unhappy with how his appearances as Sherlock Holmes turned out on TV, and, as far as he was concerned, the less said of his film reprisal the better, but in the 1990s, despite having retired from acting, he would end up being persuaded to return to narrate some of the stories to tape. Today I narrate his thoughts on that experience. Source: Stage Whispers by Douglas Wilmer.

Today I narrate Basil Rathbone's short Sherlock Holmes story, 'Day Dream', which he wrote for an issue of Esquire. Rathbone had an odd relationship with Holmes, feeling it stopped him for taking on more serious acting work. Despite lucrative offers, this was why he never continued with the film series once his last contract expired. However, his feelings to the character would soften in later years, with him reprising the role for both theatre and television. This revised feeling would also include his agreeing to pen a tribute story to the character.
