It is with a very heavy heart that I have to say that we are no longer going to be publishing and maintaining the Sherlock Holmes' Actors A-Z Index and Howard Ostrom's amazing essay pieces. For those unaware, Howard's tireless work in researching the Sherlockian film world led him getting to a well-deserved book series deal. Unfortunately, the continued publication of these pieces online would make a breach of his agreed contract, and, not wishing to jeopardize this, I must comply with it. I know that this will be a big disappointment for the many fans who enjoyed these works, or used them in their own research, but this is sadly out of our hands. However, this work obviously does live on, and can still be found through Howard's excellent book series "Sherlock Holmes On Screen". I want to also use this post to publicly thank Howard for his amazing work and support, and really making this site have a far greater reach and appeal than ever would have been possible without him. It was his sharing of my very early work back in around 2011 that led many Sherlock Holmes to be aware of me in the first place. His contributions also were the major groundwork behind the mini web documentary series "The Diogenes Documentaries" too. I felt that, together, we managed to carve out quite a niche for providing both educational and entertainment value in the Holmes world. This obviously does leave this site somewhat stripped, but I will be working hard to think about how best to reorganize and move forward with the site, and what sort of content I might look towards creating, or publishing, in its place. The core web series and films will be unaffected by these changes, and I will continue to look to develop/adapt Doyle's works through these mediums and others. If any fans wish to suggest things that they might like to see us do, or, simply send Howard a message of thanks, you can do so via the contact form. And so, my dear fellows, I remain, very sincerely yours, Ross K. Foad Merry Christmas! Today we have a video in which I narrate Douglas Wilmer's thoughts upon the Sherlock Holmes Society of London, how he got involved, and the friends that he made there. Douglas Wilmer played Sherlock Holmes in the first series of the BBC 1960's series "Sherlock Holmes" as well reprising the role for the 1975 feature film "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother." This audio extract has been adapted from the book "Stage Whispers".
